About

Sigi Cohen is a graduate of Catch Canine Trainers Academy. As a certified dog trainer, she has earned the title of CDTK (Certified in Dog Training Knowledge). And has completed studies in both obedience training and behavioral consultation.

She is also a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT). APDT is an organization dedicated to setting a higher professional standard in the dog training industry. Through her education and experience, Sigi has gained invaluable knowledge and expertise in the field, learning from top trainers in the industry.

Scientific studies have proven that with each trained behavior there is a certain emotional outcome. Negative approaches, such as aversive methods or use of harmful equipment will ultimately lead to long term fear. Fear, anxiety, and frustration lead to avoidance, escapism, and extinction. These outcomes create unhealthy relationships between dogs and their owners.

Unlike other dog trainers, Sigi only uses positive training techniques in her training sessions. By building trust and respect through love and kindness, the bond between you and your dog will be strengthened. Through positive training, your dog will soon become eager to learn, ready to please, and want to be near you. Sigi’s passion for helping both dogs and their owners is seen in her sincere caring, dedication, and commitment to delivering outstanding client services and satisfaction. She is involved in all stages of the training process, and is always available for her clients to ensure that progress is being made.

In addition to becoming a certified dog trainer, Sigi has earned several degrees that have provided her with a solid foundation for pursuing her passion in understanding and working with dogs. She has taken courses in psychology and behavioral sciences at Nassau Community College.

These courses have given her a deep understanding of how behaviors are learned, and she is able to appreciate the similarities of learned behaviors between human and canines. According to BF Skinner and Ivan Pavlov, two leaders in behavioral sciences, behaviors are learned in two distinct ways: Operant Conditioning ( learning through consequences), and Classical Conditioning ( learning through associations). During her sessions, Sigi incorporates these two main approaches ensuring that each target behavior, ranging from a simple command to correcting a more complex behavioral problem, is effectively achieved.

In 2001, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Las Vegas, with a major in Kinesiology, the study of human body movement. In 2003, she graduated from Dahan School of Massage, becoming a certified massage therapist.

As a massage therapist, she is able to apply these techniques to her canine clients to reduce stress, alleviate pain, and improve their overall wellness. Currently, Sigi continues her education by attending APDT seminars, and attending professional workshops in animal behavioral programs.
